Young Professionals & Early Career Competition 2026
Now Open for Abstract and Slide Submissions
The Manufacturing Technical Network invites students and early-career engineers to enter the 2026 'Rethinking Manufacturing: Critical Actions for a Net-Zero Future' Competition for a chance to win a cash prize and present your work.
Theme:
Global warming is approaching critical thresholds with 2025 being the hottest year on record in the uk.
To keep global warming to no more than 1.5 degrees, the world needs to achieve net zero by 2050.
What critical action must your sector of manufacturing take to contribute to achieving net zero?
What are the barriers preventing the manufacturing sector from achieving a radical leap in energy productivity and how can these be overcome?
Submissions from a range of view points will be accepted, from technical challenges (e.g. energy recapture) to business adoption barriers (e.g. legacy system incompatibilities)
What to Submit:
- A 500-word abstract outlining your presentation’s scope and aims
- A 3-slide PowerPoint covering your aims, objectives, and overview
See our Terms and conditions for entry.
Deadline for submissions is 5pm (BST) on 30th June 2026

Recent Discussions
Future of Manufactuing - join the discussion that manufacturing is no longer the primary path to widespread job creation or economic growth. That said, it strongly emphasises the continued importance of technical and professional skills in revitalising the sector, as well as the need for international collaboration across supply chains.
