  • Award Presentation At Sheridan College

    Sheridan College Faculty of Applied Science & Technology Academic Awards Ceremony was held on 24th September 2015. Jenny Yu presented the Stan Thurger Award on behalf on the IET. The award was named after the late Stan Thurger who played a vital role in the birth and growth of the Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering.The award started in 2005, the funds were endowed and the interest is awarded annually. The award is for Sheridan students only. The criteria for this award is "Academic excellence in the first year of a 3 year Engineering Technology Program with a manufacturing bias." The 2014 award recipient is Jonathan Andrew Luong. Johnathan is in the Mechanical Engineering Technician/Technology Design and Drafting Program.

    Run for IET Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2015 The 19th Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon, Hong Kong's largest participatory annual sporting event, is scheduled on 25 January 2015 (Sunday). Similar to previous years, an IET Hong Kong running team is formed to participate in the “10km” race route. It includes 8 runners and 14 cheering team members from Branch Committee, Management Section, Younger Members Section and Students Sections. On Marathon day, with high spirit, sufficient warm up and support from cheering team, our running team finished the “10km” race successfully in one and a half hour.     A while back I researched how m&a’s are used or architected even, to bring success to a partnership or benefit a company through division or expansion and still be able to effect the market place. Using industry examples I was able to review how a few m&a’s were used to support strategy for growth and recovery across many industry sectors. There are many business justifications for mergers and acquisitions. A technology company may want to acquire medium level skilled Engineers so may purchase a generic IT Company or stakeholders may wish to create more wealth based off capital, may be looking for a customer user base to acquire or economic analysis may also show that the market entered by the company is no longer attractive and as such needs to change their growth strategy or contemplate M&A…
