Prince of Wales - Britain's most powerful steam locomotive

Thanks to all who attended Rob Morland's great talk on the project to construct a new Gresley P2 locomotive from scratch. Prince of Wales is being built by the P2 Steam Locomotive Company and will be the seventh member of a class of six originally built by the LNER to the designs of Sir Nigel Gresley, none of which survived into the preservation era. The presentation was mounted jointly by the Hammersmith Section of the IET London Network and the I.Mech.E. and took place on 4th April 2022 in the I.Mech.E. Manufacturing Room in Birdcage Walk.

The NHSX AI Lab has spoken to technology businesses and care providers throughout the country and found that social care is lagging health in developing and adopting AI. The provider landscape is generally more fragmented, and many organisations still collect data manually. It may also be due to a lack of technical professionals. Increasing lifespan, along with decreased fertility, is causing the population of older adults to expand at a greater rate than any other age group, and it is expected to reach more than 1.5 million by 2050. Understanding the concerns of an ageing population to guide artificial intelligence-based solutions

By 2050, the worldwide population of adults over the age of 65 will have more than doubled, reaching a staggering 1.6 billion people, with the majority of the increase occurring in emerging countries. This growth will be one of the most significant social, economic, and political transformations of our time. This will have a significant impact on existing healthcare, government, and social systems, which are currently either not designed to accommodate an ageing population or are not built to the scale required to accommodate it. The Route to Zero Emission Buses

I’m attaching a recording of the excellent webinar give by Jane Wright of Transport for London hosted by the London Hammersmith Network on 21 st October 2021. In it Jane describes TfL's journey towards a zero-emission fleet by the early 2030's. The journey includes a retro-fit programme to a better-than Emission 6 standard fleet, trials on hydrogen fuel cell buses, the introduction of efficient hybrid buses and ultimately an all electric bus fleet. She also explains the operating and infrastructure constraints and TfL's solutions to dealing with these.

Amazing 60 years membership of ICE

It gives me great pleasure to share the news that one of our Project Controls Technical committee member, Roger Batten , has recently achieved 60 years membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). The Project Controls Network is a collaboration between the IET and the ACostE with the joint aim of advancing the knowledge and understanding of Project Control to as wide an audience as possible.
