Schneider/Telemecanique Zelio-Logic smart relay

Hi all,

first post to the new look forum. Does anyone have experience of the above ( the one I need info on is a model which has been superseded).

One of the perameters needs to be changed and I need to know if this can be done directly on the unit itself or if software is required.

Either way I’m going to have to get someone in to do it, as I have no plc experience, but I’d like to know in advance what’s actually involved.

Thanks in advance for any info.
  • Hi Geov

Yes there is special software and you will need a programming cable. The software used to be free to download, but you may not be able to get the original programme by uploading it depending on the security settings.

It could be problematic so I suggest the original installer.

    Regards

    David
  • Thanks Dave, I suspected as much. Unfortunately the client has no info on the original installer/ installation. I’ve been in touch with a company who may be able to assist, so fingers crossed. On one level, it’s a simple change to a time on peramater, but without the software it becomes a bit of a bind.

    Thanks again.
  • Their programing leads used to end in a 9 pin rs232 lead, but the newer ones contain  a USB to serial conversion in the plastic bump at the end of the cable.

Underneath it is still a serial bus device, but not with standard Rs232 voltages-   as this chap shows by opening one up, it is Rs232 framing but at 5V logic levels,

he mis identifies the opto-couplers as if they are OP-amps.

lt'd not buy a special lead, but I'm not afraid of a soldering iron., and I think it uses something like  https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/optocouplers/5473942/

    as the isolators.

software seems to be downloadable in various versions from here..

it may be worth downloading and perusing the zelio-soft manuals for differnt code versions, to make sure it is for the right model.

If you need to daisy chain units with modbus he default parameters 2-wire, RTU, 19,200 baud, even parity, address 1.
    Parameter Options
    wires2 or 4
    Frame format RTU or ASCII
    Transmission speed (baud)1200, 2400, 4800, 9600, 19,200, 28,800, 38,400, 57,600
    ParityNone, even, odd
    Network address1 to 247

I'm pretty sure that I have the software and leads for this...

    Are you sorted?

Hi Paul, didn’t get the chance to contact the co I’d spoken to about possible reprogramming - it may be that they will have leads/software. If they don’t can I dm you to arrange a borrow? Thanks.

Shouldn't be an issue, as long as the one I have is the right one for the unit you have.

I'll try and remember to look at it tomorrow and check the part number.

Software wise I can't remember what the licencing conditions were.

Can you get me the part code of the old unit?
  • Mike, thanks too for your reply. How do find this stuff??? I never seem to come across the required info when I do internet searches! Impressive.

I'm not afraid of a soldering iron either Mike, but, when you look at the time it takes to research the right pin out's, source the materials to make the lead, and make it, you could have been earning money at your normal charge rate, so it is often just not economically viable to make them, just buy the damn thing use it, charge for the job and move on to the next one and get paid again instead of spending an hour making a lead that costs less than you could have earned in that hour, iykwim! ;)

I agree this is not always the case too.
  • Oh I agree, but it depends where I am, how much of a hurry I'm in , and if what I need matches the junk box stock. And of course  there is the satisfaction of the full understanding associated with a home brew solution.

But on the other hand at a pound a minute or whatever, if you can afford the delay while it is ordered in just do so and charge buying it to the project.

Finding stuff is a mix of prior knowledge and luck, the company I work for used to be one of Siemens long haired R and D places, before it got bought and sold, and there is some history of us knowing roughly what is inside some of their stuff, and I always search for serial no and 'tear down'  to see if someone has cut one open on the web. Then it is just necessary to make sure there is a source in the public domain to point to first.

Of course if you have the cable and he lives near enough to borrow it, then it suddenly gets much easier.
