  • Leadership Programme 2018 - Quiz Night

    Over the course of 6 months, 6 workshops and 22 meetings, my team brought together 1 project – the IET Quiz Night: Celebrating Women in STEM. As part of the 2018 IET Leadership Programme cohort, we sharpened and honed both our project management and leadership skills, overcame many challenges and pushed ourselves to achieve more than we thought we could. As a team, we were split into 3 groups – marketing, logistics and operations. We had a mentor that helped guide us through the project and keep us on track. However, all the work was accomplished ourselves in order to give us a real taste of project management. Most notably, however, was that this was done in a safe environment where we were allowed to fail without consequence, and this allowed my team and I to explore and develop our skills…

    Heading into the 2018 IET Leadership Programme, I had already gained some experience working on team-based projects throughout my university studies and engineering vacation programs. I was expecting something similar throughout this Leadership Programme with IET, where I would leverage and build upon the same skills I had been developing throughout university and perhaps improve on some skills which I was lacking. Whilst this program definitely made use of many skills I already had, I found that the skills I mostly used were skills which I had not considered the significance of and importance in the industry, prior to this.     I started the IET Leadership Programme in March 2018, along with many other participants from different universities and professional fields. The Leadership Programme aims to help participants develop their leadership and project management skills, and for me it truly did. The program requires participants to execute the allocated project with the help of carefully designed workshops and experienced mentors. There were a total of 6 workshops which focused on personality types, project management, developing and leading successful teams, interviews, transition from university to full-time employment, and project presentations.     In   order to strengthen the bond of committees of USM OC, the members had a bonding day on 28 Nov where we gathered to have a workshop “ How to Write Courteously ”, conducted by Dr. Goh Hui Weng  from 2.00 pm - 4.30 pm . Dr. Goh is a certified trainer by HRDF Malaysia & Singapore Workforce Skills Qualifications and indeed we have a very fruitful workshop.     IET-USM OC did a collaboration with UNITEN OC during the Faraday Challenge organized on the 20th Oct where their volunteers came over to give their support and assistance to make that event a success.     I had a wonder meeting with our YPCC Committee in London last December 2018, it was a very engaged and effective meeting with volunteers around the world. we started our meeting with a sweet and short team building led by Imran, follow by a list of agendas to complete. We had a great discussion on the like The Future of Membership, The Future of PEI and The Future of EC. I am enjoyed the brainstorming idea and providing our opinions for respective topics. At the second day, I had presented our Asia Pacific updates on the CC Market Stalls. The concept is each CC-YP Reps prepared their updates on a A2 paper.
