  • School presentation at PASCAL Primary School and PASCAL English Schools

Like every year, we visited  PASCAL Primary School and PASCAL English Schools to speak with the students about engineering, the IET and how it can help them with their studies and professional development. The students were very interested and intrigued on the subject and asked many questions at the end. %u200BPhotos are attached.

  • Electromagnetic Modelling And Simulations - Event Review

Earlier this week I attended my first RF & Microwave event – the Electromagnetic Modelling and Simulations event held at Nottingham University. We gathered on a sunny but frosty morning at the University of Nottingham for a day of presentations from a variety of different speakers. Chris Dodds, one of the organisers, kicked off the day with a short video before introducing out first keynote speaker, Alexandros Feresidis from the University of Birmingham.   Our second keynote, which launched the afternoon session, was Professor Dave Thomas from the University of Nottingham. He gave an interesting and informative talk on TLM.   In between our keynotes we heard from a number of speakers from different backgrounds; please see the photos in this blog for details of the speakers we heard from on…

The Communities Committee - Asia Pacific (CC-AP) has been made aware of an initiative called Energy University. This is available free to IET members, and I have attached information about it to this blog post. Please share it with anyone that you think would be interested in it.   A couple of caveats - the IET does not endorse this product, nor does it take responsibility for data collected by the initiative.

  • Start Your Story: The EngiMake Story

A few weeks ago we launched the Start Your Story campaign which aims to tell more young engineering and tech entrepreneurs about how the IET can help them in their journey to innovation and commercial success. Following the launch of the campaign, two engineering graduates from the University of Manchester got in touch because they have just launched a Kickstarter campaign to develop QuadBot: a DIY 3D printable walking robot.  Both IET members, Jack Scott-Reeve and Josh Elijah developed Quadbot to help users with little or no prior engineering experience to understand electronics, coding, 3D design and printing, and maths for robotics. “Really the big problem we’re trying to solve is giving anyone the opportunity to learn robotics,” explains Jack. “We want to address this by creating a robotics…

  • Best Application Paper Award at DARS 2016

IET Robotics & Mechatronics TPN recently sponsored the Best Application Paper Award at DARS 2016.  I'm delighted to announce that the winner was Rui Fukui.   Read what Rui had to say: "It's our honor and pleasure to receive this great award. Our study tries to develop a novel robotic system to overcome the accident of Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant, Japan. As you know, the accident might be one of the worst accidents that humans have experienced. Though it is not easy for us to address this problem, this award motivates us to go forward and deploy our developing system to the real accident site as soon as possible". Our congratulations to Rui and his colleagues.
