Hello, should a lamp without a diffuser outside of zones 0-2 in a bathroom be classed as C2 or C3 on an EICR?

Thanks,

John

  • Neither provided that there is RCD protection.
  • Agree, some people prefer an enclosed fitting in a bathroom, but nothing prohibits use of a batten fitting with a GLS lamp or low energy alternative.

Such fittings used to require, and AFAIK still require to be fitted with a "home office skirt" this to prevent easy contact with the metal lamp cap.

The light pictured is so equiped.

BTW, the requirement for a "home office skirt" was one of the few electrical regulations introduced by HM government, and not by the then IEE.

These people probably think that a home office skirt is an item of clothing required by ladies working from home !
  • Lol.....not this again kevin ....?.

If the EICR is for rental purposes then all pecautions need to be observed as it is a business venture.

If its for personal use then HMO skirts are fine. You actually have to do alot of mischieve to receive an electric shock from a B22 fitting  without a HMO skirt.

    It's a rental property... so you'd class it as C2 or C3?
  • Out of zones, the assumption is it will  not be splashed, so really no code, C3 if you must - yes its a bit rough, but it is not breaking any regs in BS7671.

    If  it was in

Z2 then IP 44 or better - occasional splash proof

Z1 i.e shower spray proof  either ELV of some kind or sealed to IP65 perhaps, i.e shower spray proof

Z 0 in the bath immersion proof.

I'm sure someone went out with a home office skirt once but I cant recall how the joke ended.

  • For rental properties

    Class 2 without a RCD

Class 3 if the fitting is outside the zones, looks old or not to IP2X

    Otherwise no comment

    See my answer above.

What has rental got to do with it?

  • I think the potential issue if any is that it doesn't have a back plate. It is screwed strait to the ceiling so the connections in the back could be stuffed up into the ceiling void although i presume you checked that.

Isn't that a pendant in the entrance hall or landing seen in a mirror?
