  • UK-SPEC Change – What Does It Mean For Me?

    You may already be aware that the Engineering Council have released an update to the UK-SPEC and ICTTech Standards. From 20 April 2015, the new editions have been implemented by the IET; this includes new level descriptors for each of the competence statements within IET Career Manager which were launched as part of the recent service release . New to Career Manager or just starting out? If you are new to Career Manager, or are just starting to undertake Initial Professional Development (IPD) then nothing will change for you and you can start a review against the latest version of the competences.   • Canadarm2 And Beyond - Advanced Robotic Systems

    For those who were able to attend this talk on the 6th June, they treated to an excellent session presented by Kristen Facciol who flew in from Montreal to talk about Canadarm2 and other Space based Robotic Systems. The original Canadarm was the robotic arm attached to the space shuttle, but to help with the space station assembly and maintenance Canadarm 2 (or more properly the Space Station Remote Manipulator System) was developed. At 17m long with 7 joints it moves equipment and supplies around the station, supports astronauts working in space, and services instruments and other payloads attached to the ISS. It is also responsible for capturing the free-flying space vehicles such as the SpaceX Dragon which want to dock to the Space Station. Attached to the SSRMS is Dextre which allows robotic…

    The ARTS Network would like to record their congratulations to Professor Phil Blythe, Chairman of the IET Transport Policy Panel and ARTS TPN member who has been named as the Governments' new Chief Scientific Advisor for Transport. Professor Blythe, Newcastle University’s Professor of Intelligent Transport Systems, has been app ointed to the part time position for the next three years, and officially starts his new role today and will split his time between London and Newcastle. Supporting the Secretary of State, the Rt Hon Patrick McLoughlin, and his Ministerial team, Professor Blythe will provide strategic advice on Science, Engineering and Technology issues to ensure the UK’s transport system is sufficiently robust to meet future challenges.     About the event: CBN plays in a key role in ensuring reliable voice, data and video communication between various locations on the MRT such as Stations, Depot(s), Operation Control Center(s) and Sub-stations.     An experienced perspective of Cyber Security to include analysis of Out of Towners whose interests are for economic or other reasons. Theories since have now been actualised. Originally the theories took council from Marxist Model, Human Capital, Malsow and Herzbergs principals. A sample extract of the research findings from my 13 chapter study into Cyber Security is shown below – further theories were identified after the initial questionnaire, from which questionnaire two and three were created to further enhance the study: “ The author has assumed that human capital of an individual can have different meanings such as those reflective of the Marxist model discussed by Foley (1986).     The Isle of Wight Schools Hydrogen Challenge is a hands on, interactive programme of workshops for young people to engage in renewable technologies. The workshops, delivered by STEM professionals, explore the possibilities of a low-carbon future and directly support the curriculum at Key Stages 2, 3 and 4 (ages 7 to 16). Our approach engages young people from a variety of backgrounds, at all levels of academic ability. Our Secondary School workshop challenges teams to design, build and race their very own hydrogen fuel cell vehicle. Working in a process of iterative design, participants are encouraged to build a car as quickly as possible before racing their design in a test of efficiency. Here he gives us his personal feedback from the event: Hannover Messe 2015 once again became the forum of discussion and showcase of the development of Industrie4.01 or also deeply associated with Cyber Physical Systems (CPS). Having attended the exhibition, I would like to outline the recent updates on this topic thus far with some personal opinions. CPS and Industrie 4.0 are often used interchangeably in the media and have undoubtedly create some confusion.
