    You will no doubt have seen the information about the high demand on engineering skills to meet the demand for Engineers in the Engineering UK's most recent report . However it's not only engineering skills that are required. As a recent BBC News Article explains research shows that soft skills, such as communication, interacting with customers or stakeholders and team working are worth £88bn to the UK economy. Soft skills are also an important part of the Engineering Council's UK-SPEC , where communication and management are included alongside technical knowledge and application when considering the professional registration of a Chartered or Incorporated Engineer or Engineering Technician.     IET Prestige Lecture (joint with IMechE), 10-Dec-2014 This fascinating lecture for young, and not so young, Engineers held everyone enthralled as Tony Parraman (Head of the Project's sponsor liaison, a past teacher and a qualified engineer) sacrificed the Bloodhound Xmas dinner to take us through the history, current activities and future plans for the project: Not only driving faster than any man has ever driven, but also exceeding 1000 mph!     Jaguar Landrover have announced plans to create 1,300 new jobs at its Solihull plant so it can build the company's first Sports Utility Vehicle.   • Cross-Border Air Traffic Control Trial Cuts Holding Times At Heathrow

    A trial led by NATS as part of the UK-Ireland FAB and in collaboration with FA and Heathrow Airport, to cut the amount of time aircraft spend circling in 'holding stacks' at Heathrow has started to reap rewards. Since April 2014, NATS has recorded a reduction of up to a minute in holding times for those flights under the trial, saving airlines £1million in fueld and 5,000 tonnes of CO2, in addition to reducing noise levels for those communities under the stacks.   • Forthcoming Aerospace Event - Key Technologies For Next Generation Aircraft

    Keep a lookout for further details of a joint conference that the Aerospace TPN and Singapore Local Network are collaborating on which will be held in Singapore on 9-10 March 2015. The conference covering Key Technologies for Next Generation Aircraft will look at three main topic areas: Electric Generation and Usage on More Electric Aircraft Big Data Usage for more cost-effective operation Advances in Materials, Manufacturing and non-destructive testing solutions for Aerospace applications.
